Jared Leto accused of criminal sexual conduct by four women
Four women have come forward with criminal sexual conduct allegations against actor and musician Jared Leto, forming part of a broader group of 10 accusers who claim the Hollywood star targeted them when they were teenagers. The accusations, which span more than two decades, describe a pattern of manipulation, grooming, and assault that allegedly began when Leto was already an established celebrity.
What the accusers are saying
The four women alleging criminal conduct say they were between 14 and 17 years old when Leto, now 52, first made contact with them. Two of the accusers say they met him backstage after concerts. Another says she was introduced to him through a mutual contact in the music industry. All four describe situations where Leto allegedly used his fame to gain their trust before the encounters turned sexual.
The remaining six women in the group of 10 describe what they call emotional manipulation, unsolicited explicit messages, and coercive behavior, but stop short of criminal allegations.
A pattern of targeting minors
What makes these accusations particularly striking isn’t just the number of women involved — it’s the consistency of their accounts. They didn’t know each other, and several came forward independently before connecting through a journalist investigating Leto’s behavior. Their stories share eerily similar details: late-night direct messages on social media, invitations to private events, and requests to keep communication secret.
One accuser says Leto messaged her on MySpace in 2006 when she was 15. She claims he asked for her phone number within the first few exchanges and later invited her to a hotel room during a tour stop in her city.
It’s the kind of detail that’s hard to dismiss.
Leto’s representatives respond
A spokesperson for Leto issued a brief statement denying the allegations. “These claims are completely false and will be addressed through the appropriate legal channels,” the statement read. His legal team has not filed any defamation suits as of publication time, and no criminal charges have been filed against Leto in connection with these allegations.
Leto himself hasn’t spoken publicly about the accusations. His social media accounts remain active, with no posts addressing the controversy.
What happens next
Attorneys representing three of the four women alleging criminal conduct say they are consulting with law enforcement in multiple states. But statutes of limitations present a significant legal obstacle in several jurisdictions. So while the women want accountability, a criminal prosecution may be difficult to pursue depending on where and when the alleged incidents occurred.
Advocacy groups are already calling on entertainment industry organizations to respond formally. And at least one streaming platform is reportedly reviewing its association with projects featuring Leto, though no announcements have been made.
The accusations arrive at a time when Hollywood is still grappling with accountability gaps exposed by the #MeToo movement. Whether these allegations result in legal consequences or industry consequences — or both — remains to be seen.
